If you’re a parent, you know the pressure that can come with family photos. You’ve probably been there…coordinating everyone’s outfits, rushing to get out the door, hoping no one spills on themselves, and silently crossing your fingers that the kids cooperate. Add in the pressure to get that perfect smiling photo and it’s no wonder so many parents feel stressed before the first picture is even taken.
But here’s the truth: the best family photos don’t come from stiff smiles and perfectly behaved kids. They come from moments of genuine connection.
Getting everyone involved makes for more meaningful family photos
In every session I photograph, my focus is helping families feel at ease. I gently guide you through the process – from choosing outfits that photograph beautifully to picking a location that feels natural and relaxed. On the day of the session, I help your family engage in playful interaction and meaningful connection, rather than posing and forcing smiles. Kids are encouraged to move, play, and explore and if there’s a moment where comfort is needed, we can take care of that too. Parents are encouraged to laugh, snuggle, and just be with their children.
This approach takes the pressure off. There’s no expectation that anyone needs to perform. Instead, we let real moments unfold and I capture them with care and intention.
Family photos that feel like you
Time and again, parents tell me they’re surprised at how calm the session felt, and how much they loved simply being present with their family. Later, when they see their images, they’re moved, not just by how their family looked, but by how the photos feel. There’s emotion, authenticity, joy. These are the kinds of images that stay on your walls, not just your phone.
And because I offer full-service photography, I’m with you every step of the way…from wardrobe support to creating heirloom albums and custom wall art. You don’t have to stress about what to do with your images. I’ll help you choose the most meaningful ways to preserve them, so they can be enjoyed every day.
So if you’ve been putting off family photos because it feels overwhelming, I get it. But know this: your family doesn’t need to be perfect. You just need to show up as you are. I’ll take care of the rest. 😊
